If You Put These 10 EDM Songs On Your Morning Playlist, You Won’t Need Coffee

There’s a little more to Electronic Dance Music (EDM) than just being the soundtrack to an amazing night or a great workout. EDM is a robot body with soul. Songs composed on computers with loops, live instruments, soulful vocals and surprisingly heartfelt lyrics, EDM is one of those genres that always flips a frown upside down. With soaring synths, thumping bass lines, stuck-in-your-head for days on end hooks, your heart starts going and your head starts bopping and suddenly you’re in love. It’s hard to have a bad day with a good playlist, especially when you take these ten tracks out for a spin on your way to work. See if they’ll take the edge off that caffeine detox you’ve been meaning to start.

1. Mr. Probz – "Waves" (Robin Schultz Remix)

A remix of a downtempo track, “Waves” has all the things you need for the start of a good day and remind you of that vacation you still haven’t taken but totally will start planning in the middle of the morning meeting. It even has the tried and true dance formula: Easy guitar riff, slow build up, raspy male vocals. If that doesn’t convince you that this song is a great coffee substitute, this YouTube comment should:

2. Alesso – "Heroes (We Could Be)" ft Tove Lo

Premiered on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show, the track features on the rise You Oughta Know singer Tove Lo on vocals and yes, it does hat tip to the classic David Bowie track “Heroes.” Alesso delivers classic Euro-house synths and reminds you that you, yes you, can be a hero with ‘love and little light.’  Featured during his recent Tomorrowland set, you can practically feel all the sweaty people moving as one under the pulsating lights and bass. Feel free to dance on the subway, glowsticks optional.

3. Jungle – "Busy Earnin’"

UK group Jungle takes the basslines, high hat, horn section badassness of 70s soul funk and basically serves the realness you need to face every single day, especially coffee free days. Lifelong friends “J” and “T” took a concept and a seven piece orchestra to create kaleidoscopic new soul that promises you will pop your collar and strut into the workplace like the superfly you really are.

4. Dillon Francis – "I Can’t Take It"

Do you like a sweaty house party? Do you like dirty beats, that inescapable dancehall airhorn and trippy vocals that remind you of just how you’re feeling without coffee? Mega producer Dillion Francis has got you covered with this moombahton deep bass track from his upcoming album “Money Sucks, Friends Rule.” Promise you’ll be able to take it once you’ve given this track a spin.

5. Dvbbs Motl -- "This Is Dirty" 

It’s Friday night. You’re in a bar club lounge with way too much smoke machine and strobe light for your taste but you’re nodding your head, sweaty and can’t control the fist bumping that your right hand is doing. This track right here will make you stomp your feet, headbang and wish you had another Lime-a-Rita on deck. Monday paperwork be damned, bro.

6. W&W – "Bigfoot"

Big thumpy bass, electro horns, afro house beats, promise you’ll be stomping around on the platform and not because the train is ridiculously late and you still haven’t had coffee. Plus the music video encourages you to get down with your bad self. Fresh from Tomorrowland, W&W will be the Dutch duo to provide the soundtrack to all your sasquatch party needs.

7. Porter Robinson – "Lionhearted" ft Urban Cone

Part of the fun of going to work, besides feeling like a contributing member of society, is the ability to find the song that makes you feel like you can tackle whatever mess awaits you. The boss feels like a super villain and we’re pretty sure that you want to walk around like some of the girls in this video. With its '80s synth friendly snaps thumping bass and breathy chant vocals, "Lionhearted" will make you feel like you’re walking into the workplace ready to make some noise.

8. Moguai & Benny Benassi -- "Gangsta"

At around the 40 second mark, a single piece of dialogue really opens up the track, Gangsta “For as long I could remember, I’ve always wanted to be a gangster” and once the beat kicks in, you’ll be making it your mantra, even if all you ever wanted to be was a successful Tumblr writer. Super producer Benny Benassi, the king of big beats, continues to bring the basslines and classic dance music you’ll switch to tea because that’s much more gangsta to drink.

9. Mystique – "Brand New"

Remember when you went to your friend’s wedding for the free booze and steak dinner and the DJ played The Stylistics “You Make Me Feel Brand New” and you downed that bottle of wine that was at the table? This song samples the hook but promise you won’t have those terrible no one loves me feelings because you’ll be too busy spinning around the room in your dope new outfit, ready to take on the world. Or your boss. Whatever.

10. Will Sparks - "This is What The Bounce Is"

The train is late, you haven’t had your coffee and your shoelaces keep coming undone. But your headphones- man your headphones are rocking and you’ve hit max volume with this track from DJ producer Will Sparks. There will be shuffling, bopping and probably fist pumping and you don’t have to say sorry about any of it because the song lives up to the title.
