Designer and 'Project Runway' Alum Mychael Knight Has Died at 39
Celebrity fashion designer Mychael Knight passed away early this morning, according to The Jasmine Brand which reported the news exclusively. He was just 39 years old.
Knight jump-started his fashion career by interning for Atlanta-based Wilbourn Exclusives in 2001. He then became self-employed as a fashion stylist until being casted on Project Runway season 3 (2006) where he wowed the judges with his amazing knack for evening wear. Knight placed 4th in the competition, but stole the hearts of viewers everywhere as proven by him winning the Fan Favorite award.
After wrapping with the show, Knight went on to work on his premiere namesake line Mychael Knight, and has dressed A-list celebrities like Khloe Kardashian, Jennifer Hudson and Taraji P. Henson. His designs have also been adored and worn by Love & Hip Hop stars like Trina and Olivia Longott.
One of Knight's longtime clients, Towanda Braxton, took to Instagram to speak on the impact he had on her family and the fashion industry at large. "You were the FIRST designer to dress us for #BFV [Braxton Family Values]", she wrote. "The fashion world will not be the same without you."
There are currently no details surrounding the cause of Knight's death.
