Abbi Jacobson's Infamous Lady Gaga Homage on 'Broad City' Wasn't Originally Planned That Way

Abbi Jacobson's nude celebration of Bevers' departure on this season's Broad City has been the most unforgettable moment of the year so far. However, the original version of her hilarious dance to Lady Gaga's 'Edge of Glory' was a lot tamer than what it turned out to be.

That is, there wasn't any dancing around at all. “It originally was just going to be this montage of me making breakfast naked, and watching Friends on DVR," said Jacobson on the red carpet of PaleyFest's 'Salute to Comedy Central' yesterday. "Then the closer it got to shooting, it was like, ‘Hold on, this is a spot for something much more powerful.’ When you’re alone for the first time after having a roommate, your reaction has to be stronger, so we went for it."

On filming the infamous scene, Jacobson noted, "It was terrifying. I was like, ‘Fuck.’ I was wearing little things to cover my parts, but it was a closed set. It was just me and Yoshi our steadicam operator doing this dance.”

But if you've been watching the current season at all, you know the spotlight has been on Jacobson's fearlessness on screen. When asked by panel moderator Andy Greenwald about the moment she felt like she nailed what Broad City was all about, Jacobson brought up season two's episode "Knock-Offs," in which her character fights over a strap-on with a neighbor she's been drooling over for months, moments before they're about to have sex.

"My favorite thing that we really figured out…was that we’re not making fun of pegging," said Jacobson. "That’s not the joke. [Her fight with Jeremy] is much more intricate and detailed. I was really proud of it. That’s when we figured [the show] out. All it takes is a strap-on sometimes."

When asked on the red carpet what a Workaholics/Broad City cross-over episode would like, DeVine simply said, "We'd all just go on a hunt for the best corn dog. We’re the veteran show, so they should come to us in L.A., but we wouldn’t let them. We’d say, ‘No, we’re coming to you,’ and they’d say, ‘That’s so gracious of you,' and we'd go hunting in New York."

Hey, on top of nude dancing and shameless pegging, we've seen Abbi and Ilana search every borough in New York just for Abbi's cellphone, so a corn dog hunt isn't entirely out of the question.
