5 Songs From 'Empire' That Sound Like Songs From Real Life
Hate it or love it, Empire is one of the most popular shows on television right now. The show's soap opera-like storylines, matched with it's over the top characters and cameos, reel in faithful viewers weekly. But the sweet spot for many fans is the show's musical component. It only make sense that a show based on the recording industry have music that is not only credible, but sonically relevant. A bulk of the credit can be given to the show's executive music producer Timbaland, and music director Jim Beanz.
Most of the show's music can be easily mistaken for any song currently in rotation on your local radio station. Which lead us to wonder -- which tracks from the show sound like real-life songs? Take a look at some of the conclusions we came up with.
1. "No Apologies"- Yazz featuring Jussie Smollett
Totally Sounds Like: "Holy Grail" - Jay Z featuring Justin Timberlake
Maybe it's the fact that Timbaland who serves as the shows music producer, also produced "Holy Grail." Either way, we couldn't help but notice the haunting piano and climatic hook both tracks seem to share.
2. "Armani" - Yazz
Totally Sounds Like: "Versace" - Migos
If the song's title and premise didn't give it away, Yazz's attempt at the Migos flow certainly did.
3. "Money for Nothing" - Jussie Smollett featuring Yazz
Totally Sounds Like: "Money for Nothing" - Dire Straits
The Empire crew remake a Dire Straits classic from 1985, the revolutionary video was a fixture on MTV back in the early years.
4. "Can't Truss Em" - Yazz
Totally Sounds Like: "Blood On The Leaves" - Kanye West
Yeezus meets Yazzus? The "Blood On The Leaves" influence can clearly be heard on this one.
5. "Good Enough"
Totally Sounds Like: "Cry Me A River" - Justin Timberlake
The groove, the Timbo beatbox, the scorned lyrics? Are we reaching here or nah?
