Christina Aguilera Once Said Justin Timberlake Should Get Back Together With Britney Spears

Welcome to Fave Flashback, where we look back at some of your idols' most awkward (and iconic) interview moments. Today's subjects? Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera.

The beginning of 2003 was a bizarre time for Spears fans. The post-Timberlake, pre-In the Zone purgatory was chock-full of strange happenings, like outings with Colin Farrell and this outfit. However, the weirdest event during this time--by far--was the three-month joint summer tour between Timberlake and Aguilera, Spears' tabloid-crafted nemesis. Ten-year-old BritBrit fans felt stung by this union. Timberlake, fresh off the heels of his break-up with Spears, gallivanted around the United States with the woman who constantly challenged Spears' status as the pop princess. It might as well have been cheating.

In hindsight, getting pissy about this was stupid. (Granted, anything you were pissy about at 10 was probably stupid.) Timberlake and Aguilera were just friends, but even more important, she was on Spears' side. How do we know this? Aguilera said in an interview with E! News while doing press for the tour that Timberlake and Spears should get back together! Be still my 2001 heart.

"I just see a lot of girls around [Timberlake]--he knows this--that are just so out to be with him for him and the whole thing," Aguilera said. "Cut it. Give me a break. Britney has known him since she was a little girl before he was Justin the star and he was just Justin."

Timberlake was right next to Aguilera as she said this, and he started whistling the Jeopardy! theme song to make things less awkward. "I don't want to make somebody uncomfortable, so we'll just drop that subject," Aguilera said.

"Too late for that," Timberlake said jokingly, but you can sense the tension in the air. Ahhh, young love! Watch the from-the-vault moment in the video above.
