You Won't Believe Where Salt-N-Pepa and Martin Lawrence Were Co-Workers Before the Fame

Started from a cubicle, now they're here.

Did you know Salt-N-Pepa, Martin Lawrence, and Kid 'N Play used to all work together? Before their iconic glow ups, the hip hop stars and comedian used to be cubicle neighbors at a Sears department store as telephone solicitors. The hustle has to start somewhere. VH1 sat down with Salt-N-Pepa to relive their pre-fame work days, and share their thoughts on Hip Hop Honors honoree Martin Lawrence.

"Martin Lawrence was trying to be a comedian. He sat in a cubicle next to me," Cheryl James recalls before hilariously revealing that "I didn't think he was funny." However, the duo and Lawrence made a glow up pack stating, "whoever gets put on first will put the other one on." Salt-N-Pepa were true to their word, and had the comedian open up for them at their earlier shows at a Manhattan club called Inferno. The rest is history.

In the video above, watch the iconic hip-hop duo discuss more throwback highlights on their first time meeting Lawrence before the fame. Also, celebrate Martin's incredible career with us at Hip Hop Honors: The 90's Game Changers on September 18 at 9/8c.
