Teyana Taylor, Jhené Aiko, and More Share Inspiring Motherly Advice on the 'Dear Mama' Red Carpet

Someone learned a valuable lesson from an unforgettable butt whooping.

The celebrity guests at VH1's Dear Mama: A Love Letter to Mom can all agree on one thing for sure: mama knows best.

We spoke with this year's stars including Diddy, Teyana Taylor, Jhene Aiko, Jessie J, Ne-Yo, Gabrielle Union, Anthony Anderson and La La Anthony about the best advice they ever received from their moms, and the answers did not disappoint.

When it comes to raising their daughters, Teyana Taylor and Jhene Aiko learned from their moms that selflessness and compassion are key. "Even as a parent, the best piece of advice is no parent is the perfect parent," Teyana says. "The moment she told me that, it was like this weight off my shoulders."

Jhene's mom gave her the tools to have that same devotion with her daughter Nami Love. "Through her actions she's taught me to be compassionate, empathetic, loving and selfless."

When it comes to her career, Jessie J's mom had a huge role in helping the singer develop tough skin. After getting turned down for the role of Annie at age 8, Mama J encouraged her baby girl to keep the faith. "She [told me], 'Jess, when one door closes, it's not the end. You just have to find a bigger and better door to be open.'"
