Queen Latifah Talks Wearing African Clothing In This Amazing Throwback Interview
Fashion <i>is</i> power.
As Queen Latifah knows, hip-hop and fashion go hand in hand. The VH1 Hip Hop Honors: All Hail the Queens honoree appeared on a 1989 episode of Yo! MTV Raps, where she spoke to Fab 5 Freddy about what wearing African clothing means to her.
"By wearing African clothes, African accessories, not only am I supporting my African brothers and sisters who have these businesses, but it brings me closer to my ancestors," Latifah told Freddy in the throwback episode. The interview took place in a store teeming with dashikis, batiks, African pendants and more African clothing items and accessories.
"Not to mention, they're comfortable," Latifah said of the clothes. "I just feel inner power." Fashion is power, y'all!
