Malaysia Explains Where Her Kids Were and Breaks Down the Behind the Scenes of Her Pop-Up at Angel's Party
Malaysia Pargo pulled a now-infamous pop-up on Angel Brinks event on last night's Basketball Wives LA, leaving viewers wondering, how much of that was real and how did it really go down.
VH1.com caught up with Malaysia to get all the behind the scenes dirt about how that moment happened, where her kids were, and why she's so loyal to Brandi Maxiell.
So, let's get real, how much of you showing up to Angel Brinks' sip and shop was like, not planned? Can you give us the behind the scenes intel?
Malaysia Pargo: No, I was not planning to do it. If you see my face, I had no makeup, no hair, no nothing.
For real? You looked like maybe you had some BB cream on? You looked great.
No, I actually didn’t. I promise to God I did not. I was a hot mess. My hair wasn’t even combed or brushed. So, no, I was actually laying in my bed, and you know Brandi text me like, "I feel funny. Like something’s gonna happen." So I was like, "Oh lord." So, I was kinda already on the edge, and then she called and I was like, let me get up and go and just in case because Brandi was screaming, talking about, you know, "This girl something." I can’t remember exactly what she said, and then I [could] hear someone else in the background screaming, "Bitch," and I was like, "Oh lord, okay." So she’s there by herself, well she has Duffey, [but] you know I’m used to it just being her and I, like Brandi and Malaysia against the world. So, I totally forgot that Duffey was there but still Duffey’s, either way it go, it was two against Angel and all of her friends and family and you know it was an Angel event, so of course, you’re gonna like invite your friends and family. So I just in my mind thought like that Brandi and Duffey are there by themselves, and I needed to go to make sure they were okay.
What did the producers say when you showed up? Did they put a microphone on you before you started yelling?
No. I actually had no mic on at all. Like they didn’t even know I was showing up. I didn’t even know I was showing up. [Laughs]
Malaysia, you were loud.
Yeah, I was like very loud. [The crew of] Basketball Wives LA] didn’t know that, they had no idea that I was showing up. I believe they was surprised, and I was actually surprised that they were outside. I was like, "Oh Lord." [Laughs] They caught me. No one ever catched me doing bad stuff. I’m like a little black cat, so... [Laughs]
What time was the event? Like, what time did your pop-up happen?
Oh my gosh, it was about like 9? Between 8 and 9 o'clock.
I gotta ask you, where were your children?
They were with my mom.
I was really into you showing up unannounced.
Yeah like, "Where was her kids?" Yeah, no, my mom was home because during the week my mom, while we’re filming, my mom would help me with my kids, so she’ll watch my kids. She lives far, so she will stay with me during the week while I’m filming Basketball Wives, so that she can get the kids from school for me and all that other good stuff. So, that’s why it was easy for me to just you know check out real fast. Plus, the kids were in bed and ready to go to sleep already. My kids go to bed at 8 o’clock, so it was already like, they were already down and out and I was like on my way out, and so I just threw some sweats on and then jumped in the car and you know just went to [Angel's event]. I just went to make sure that my friend was okay. And she was. Everything was fine. And then I got back and my car and went back home.
You are clearly very protective of your friendship with Brandi, and you're a very loyal friend.
Yeah, and I just want to reiterate that Brandi and I did not just become friends on the TV show. We've been friends for almost 10-plus years. Our husbands are friends, well my ex-husband and her husband are friends. We used to take vacations together. I've prayed with this woman. We've been there for each other for years so it's not a situation where I just met her on the show, and I'm like, "Yeah, this is my friend now." No, it's a true friendship.
How do you feel about seeing their relationship play out on television? They've been going through it, and you just recently went through a divorce. What do you make of that?
Obviously, I want my friend to be happy whichever way she goes but, if I had my way, which I don't, she would stay in her marriage and work it out with her husband. I know how amazing he is, well, I know how amazing they are together. And I know people are going to say, "You're such a hypocrite because you walked away from your [marriage]" but I feel like every situation is totally different. I feel like in their situation, it's still salvageable. I feel like if they work at it, they'll be great. They way they look at each other, and the way that she looks at him, the love is there and I think they can work it out.
In an exclusive interview with Shaunie O'Neal, the executive producer opened up about Malaysia returning to season five with a brand new attitude.
Keep up with Malaysia, Brandi, and all the ladies on Basketball Wives LA Sundays at 9/8c.
