Katy Perry Used To Be A Backup Singer For P.O.D.—And There's Video Evidence

Before she kissed a girl, she sang with these God metal dudes.

We all know that before Katy Perry was the Teenage Dream that we all know and love, she was Katy Hudson— a (comparatively) mild mannered Christian singer. Her 2001 self-titled debut sold less than 200 copies, so she turned to other ways to get her voice out there. Hence, the little-known gig with P.O.D. Considering the Christian themes in the band's music, it actually makes a whole lot of sense. But still, it's definitely weird to see the pop queen paired up with the God metal dudes.

Thankfully, we have a video record of their time together. Check out the 2006 video for "Goodbye For Now" above (her bit starts at 3:27), as well as the band's appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno from that same year (also at 3:27). You can REALLY hear her on that clip!
