Christina Aguilera's Duet with Hologram Whitney Houston Gets Canceled
It looks like the world isn't ready for a Whitney Houston hologram.
The late singer's estate decided against airing Christina Aguilera's performance with a hologram Houston on The Voice finale Thursday night (May 20). However, that didn't stop footage of it from leaking all over the Internet. (We can't include it here, but trust us--it's everywhere.) We thought the performance was beautiful, albeit a bit creepy. However, Houston's camp didn't think the clip was ready for primetime.
But before you cry "Aguilera shade," the "Dirrty" singer was not the reason for the cancelation. In fact, Pat Houston, the head of Whit's estate, said X-Tina was "absolutely flawless" in the performance.
No, the reason was the hologram. Houston's estate apparently didn't think the technology was good enough for television yet.
"Holograms are new technology that take time to perfect, and we believe with artists of this iconic caliber, it must be perfect," Houston told Entertainment Tonight, who broke the story. "Whitney's legacy and her devoted fans deserve perfection. After closely viewing the performance, we decided the hologram was not ready to air."
Bummer. We were really looking forward to this. However, hopefully they can fix the bells and whistles ASAP and air a duet that will knock our socks off.
Houston was a pop queen known for her shade, but is she the Shade Queen? The VH1 staff discusses this in the video below:
