Chrissy Teigen Is Cutting Down On Drinking in Order to Live Her Very Best Life

"I have to fix myself."

Chrissy Teigen is no stranger to baring it all about real-life issues and us regular folk can relate. Recently, the model and TV host chatted with Cosmopolitan and confessed that she's cutting back on the alcohol after realizing the path she was on.

One of the many perks of being a celebrity is free gifts, which of course includes unlimited booze at damn near every event and appearance. As you can imagine, it becomes harder and harder to turn down over time. "Imagine everything we have," Chrissy says. "Everything is there, always. I don't know how to go to an awards show and not drink."

The temptation became too much for Chrissy, who happens to have a history of alcohol abuse in her family. "I was, point blank, just drinking too much," she confesses. "I got used to being in hair and makeup and having a glass of wine. Then that glass of wine would carry over into me having one before the awards show. And then a bunch at the awards show. And then I felt bad for making kind of an ass of myself to people that I really respected... It's not a good look for me, for John, for anybody." Chrissy also takes a number of medications for postpartum depression and anxiety, and adds that "alcohol is like the least thing that helps."

All of these factors encouraged Chrissy to take stock of her health and how alcohol was playing a role. The turning point was a relaxing wellness retreat The Legends attended in Bali. During their stay, she abstained from drinking, worked out and got plenty of rest. The results were life-changing. "I would wake up feeling amazing. My skin felt amazing. I was just so happy."

Chrissy and her hubby John Legend are soon about to start another IVF journey to conceive their second child - a journey she already knows will be challenging. However, her abstinence from alcohol and commitment to a healthier lifestyle is a change that will help ease the process. "I used to think it was kind of nutty to have to go totally sober," she said, "but now I get it. I don't want to be that person. … I have to fix myself."

We're rooting for you, Chrissy!

Chrissy Teigen isn't the only one to open up about alcohol issues. Nikki and Teairra of Love & Hip Hop Hollywood had a deep and tearful conversation about Teairra's problem with alcohol.
