TI & Tiny: The Family Hustle's Tameka 'Tiny' Harris has her hands in many projects from managing the OMG Girlz to being an all-star mom to her six kids but let us never forget Tiny's musical roots. Alongside Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss, Tiny co-wrote "No Scrubs" for TLC but even before that Tip's wifey and Kandi go back to their 90s girl group days.
In 1992 Tiny, Kandi and sisters Tamika and Latocha Scott became part the group Xscape and, well, we've really been having a moment with them all so we decided to put our Xscape (and just Tiny) playlist here for you to relive it all. Keep an ear out for Tiny's high harmonies, she's the soprano of the group and usually taking the high notes. Also check out their fab early 90s looks. They've got tight harmonies, crazy swag and high "music video" drama.
The lead single off Xscape's debut album Hummin' Comin' at 'Cha is notable for Tiny's dark hair and bangs! Also important because it's the song you want playing when you walk in the door from a long day at work and slip off your shoes. Just me?
The fourth single off Hummin' Comin' at 'Cha perfectly brings that early 90s R&B flavor with the ladies early youthful sound. Also, YASS to that sitting-down-in-a-theatre choreography!
Lawd, this song is just IT. Featured on the soundtrack for the Jim Carrey film The Mask this was the start of the jump blues-big band revival that happened in the mid-to-late 90s. The close harmonies are just giving life. Remember Tiny's taking the top note. Those Zoot suits tho!
Slower than the previous songs, "Do You Want To" was off Xscape's sophomore album Off The Hook. It features Tiny on lead vocals it also features Tiny in lots of hats and doing lots of acting with a phone. The other girls aren't having Tiny's guy ish in this mini drama.
"My Little Secret" is kinda sleazy and kinda delicious. Sample lyrics: "I like being in the same room as you and your girlfriend. The fact that she don't know really turns me on." SMDH. But the song is sexxxxxy.
"I Know You See Me" is off Lil' Kim's fourth studio album The Naked Truth. It wasn't a huge commercial success for Kim but you can't go wrong adding this jam to your summer playlist. Serious. Tiny shows up on that hook in a real way.
We know Tiny, Kandi and the other girls aren't featured in the video for TLC's "No Scubs" but did you know that both Tiny and Kandi (who co-write the song and earned a Grammy nom for it) are featured on the background vocals and chorus? NOW YOU DO.
