Christina Milian Is 'Turned Up' And Making New Music With Lil Wayne

Christina Milian is back in the entertainment game, and this time she's on E!. Christina Milian Turned Up, her new documentary series, premiered two weeks ago and chronicles the singer-turned-actress-turned-entrepreneur's daily hustle. We caught up with Milian to find out more about the show, her return to music, and her collaborations with Lil Wayne. Oh, and her new album.

Milian revealed that she and Lil Wayne have some tricks up their sleeves, and we're guessing one of those was their "Drunk In Love" remix on Weezy's Sorry For The Wait 2 mixtape. Milian hinted that she's got some tricks of her own, too, including an upcoming album and her first mixtape. Find out more about her return to music, as well as her desire to return to the big screen. Could she be starring in an indie film?

How did the documentary on E! come about?

My producer Stella Bulochnikov approached me about it years ago. My mom always said that she didn't want to be part of a reality show, which persuaded me not to be in one. But I finally decided I wanted to do one, so she decided to join. The show is a great opportunity for my fans to get to know the real me and to give my family a chance to step out of my shadow and for us to all have fun and build this empire together. I have brands that I actually own and I felt that this would be good exposure for women to see my work ethic and be inspired.

Speaking of your brands, are you still with Viva Diva Wines and Shelby Star?

Yes, all that I own. They're going in a great direction and they're going to have great exposure. I'm looking to have Viva Diva in California. I'm trying to work on the distribution there. Shelby Star is going great. We shot a music video and I'm building an app and some other things for the project. I started my clothing line We Are Pop Culture three months ago and we've gotten a lot of attention for it. I'm glad that I can create a womenswear line that is street yet casual that women can feel confident in no matter what.

What are you working on musically right now?

I'm wrapping up my album and doing some records with Wayne and working on my first mixtape. I have a new song called "Rebel" that will be coming out on my show.

You took some time off from music to raise your beautiful daughter Violet. How did the time off affect you individually and artistically?

I'm happy that I took time off to become a mom and raise my daughter properly and build a bond between the two of us.  Violet is my everything. She's the sweetest little girl in the whole world. She inspires me. I'm glad that we have such a close relationship because she makes me laugh and shows me how great life can be every day.

What was the craziest memory that took place during filming?

So many! I don't even know where to begin. There was a moment that I had with my sister that was more intimate and personal where we let skeletons out of the closet. To be honest with you, it's real and all I can ask for is realness. It actually helped me, my sister, my mom and everybody move forward due to the fact that we had to communicate and kind of deal with the situation at hand. But any kind of fight or argument is not cool and you don't really want people to see that side of you.

How did it feel having the camera crew following you around during filming? Was that a hard adjustment?

Yes, it totally is. Cameras, microphone packs and lights everywhere doesn't feel real at first and eventually you get comfortable. But, to have a crew around you, producers and people just watching you in the middle of a regular day, AKA a scene, is weird. So you're kind of guarded at first but eventually you relax and get used to it.

How has the show changed your personal relationships to your family members and friends?

We've grown closer. I spent a lot more time with my friends and it was good to spend time with my mom and my sisters because we were starting to become very independent of each other, which is great, but it also felt a little bit more estranged between us. It was nice to be around each other and rebuild our relationship.

What was it like performing “Start A Fire” with Lil Wayne at the 2014 AMAs? This wasn’t the first time you two have collaborated.

It was amazing. We had so much fun! I love being on the stage with Wayne as well as in the studio. I think that we make great music together and I can't wait to see what we do next. I know we have a couple things up our sleeves.

Post docu-series, are you looking to get back into acting as well as singing?

Yes, in addition to music I can't wait to do some films again. It's been some time off so I want to take it to the next level and maybe even take some acting classes and try some new things. So who knows what I'll do. I would love to do an indie film as I've grown to have a more serious side.
