Kendrick Lamar Joined His New BFFs Imagine Dragons on 'Saturday Night Live'
Imagine Dragons made their Saturday Night Live debut last night with host Melissa McCarthy. Amy Poehler, Andy Samberg and Stefon might have guested on Seth Meyer's last Weekend Update, but Imagine Dragons had a surprise guest of their own. Kendrick Lamar snuck on stage during their performance of "Radioactive" to rekindle some of their Grammy night mash-up magic.
Imagine Dragons conquered American radio last year with their catchy and cacophonous hit, "Radioactive." The song has been played so much in the past year that its initial impact had started to dull. However, at last weekend's Grammy Awards, the band collaborated with rapper Kendrick Lamar. The unlikely pairing made for musical magic and the "Radioactive"/"m.A.A.d. City" mash-up became one of the most talked about performances of the night.
The band played what seemed to be a straight-forward version of "Radioactive" until they hit the drum solo. As all of the band members took to a drum, a spotlight fixed on a hooded figure that crept up from the shadows. Sure enough, it was Lamar, who added some new rhymes to the song. The clip is sadly not on Hulu (probably due to rights regarding Lamar's lyrics), but you can see it here.
Later in the night, Imagine Dragons returned to the stage without Lamar to perform "Demons." Imagine Dragons seems to have found magic with Kendrick Lamar more than once now. Will the two acts collaborate a third time?
Saturday Night Live returns March 1. No word on who the host or musical guest will be.
