Some People Think Lil Wayne's New Super Bowl Commercial Is Racist, But It's Not That Deep

Apartments.com debuted their 2016 Super Bowl commercial starring Lil Wayne, Jeff Goldblum and George Washington yesterday and apparently, some folks aren't too happy about it.

Set to the tune of "Movin' On Up" from The Jeffersons, the commercial features Goldblum being lifted up "to a deluxe apartment in the sky" while playing the piano and singing with a gospel choir. While on his way to the top of the building, Goldblum spots Lil Wayne and Washington firing up a rooftop grill and cooking burgers and beans. It's this scene in particular that have some saying that the whole commercial is "low-key racist," according to TMZ. Why? Because Weezy appears to be cooking for the first President of the United States, who "famously owned slaves."

Before you get out of your chair, hear this one out: A "source close to Wayne" already spoke to TMZ about the commercial. The source said that the ad is simply "meant to be funny and silly and not the least bit offensive" and added that "people need to calm down."

It's also unclear who exactly TMZ says is concerned about the video being racist in the first place. "Some people" is vague enough to apply to anyone. More likely than not, it's some trolls over on Twitter.
