Twerk Anthems Of 2013

There's no doubt that 2013 was the year of the twerk. Partially thanks to Miley Cyrus, the dancing craze reached a new mass level prompting VH1's own Mark Graham to write up the complete history of twerking and Oxford Dictionaries to add the word to its online database. (In case you're curious; "Twerk, v.: dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance.") And as we close out the year, we thought it was important to look back on all the jams that made our booty clap, bounce, shake or whatever it was that you did to thrust your hips in a twerk-like manner.

Like Jay Z rapped on Magna Carter Holy Grail, "somewhereinamerica, Miley Cyrus is still twerkin'."

1. B.o.B. and 2 Chainz, "Headband"

This whistle jam is perfect for the lazy twerker. As the video displays, all the twerking is for the floor. Just lay on down and work it out.

2. Busta Rhymes and Nicki Minaj, "Twerk It"

Not wanting to be left out of the twerking business, Busta Rhymes dropped a Pharrell Williams-produced track aptly called "Twerk It." Not the biggest radio hit but the song brought an element of dancehall to the craze.

3. Grandtheft & Skratch Bastid, "Miley"

Given that twerking has become synonymous with Miley this year, two DJs brilliantly brought all of the best twerking moments together in one song.

4. Major Lazer, Bruno Mars, 2 Chainz, Tyga & Mystic, "Bubble Butt"

What happens when you put 2 Chainz, Bruno Mars and Diplo on one track? You get the most ridiculously fantastic piece of twerk music ever. This is about as addictive as you can get for a song about butts.

5. Miley Cyrus, "We Can’t Stop"

"We Can't Stop" is not an obvious "twerk anthem," but thanks to the singer's popularity and MTV VMA performance, it's probably the most popular song of the year.

6. Rihanna, "Pour It Up"

She may have not released a new album this year, but she kept fans appetites wet with this slow jam. The signature hand claps keep the asses bouncing as RiRi purrs over the song.

7. RuPaul and Big Freedia, "Peanut Butter"

Aside from "Bubble Butt," this is one of the more purely energetic jams on the list. Ru's song keeps the asses shaking as displayed in the video.

BONUS: Horse & Hammer, "Christmas Twerk"

This song is not really a "twerk anthem" but you have to appreciate that someone took the time to bring Christmas into the fold. So, here it is: The "Christmas Twerk" jam.
