The Most Unforgivable Wigs in Movie History
These actors deserve vacations after *wiggin' out* on the big screen.
Costume, hair and makeup are essential to the movie-making process. When done right, you (ironically) pay the least amount of attention to these, but when done wrong, they stick out like sore thumbs. How are you supposed to take Colin Farrell seriously when he's wearing a platinum blonde wig that has more flow than a GD waterfall?
Therein lies the problem with a bad wig. It takes over everything and shows zero mercy in the process. These are the most unforgivable wigs in movie history.
Julia Roberts, Mother's Day
Mother's Day has yet to hit theaters, but it's already making headlines for this particular reason: Julia Roberts' wig. People reports that the wig Roberts wears in Mother's Day is the same one she wore in 1999's Notting Hill. It's unclear why the hairpiece is being revived 17 years later, a mystery that became even more so when Roberts politely avoided talking about it at the Mother's Day premiere.
Taylor Lautner, Twilight
Beautiful human being Taylor Lautner fell victim to a no-good, awful wig for the Twilight series. Lucky for Lautner, his hotness transcended the faux locks, but this didn't stop him from harboring ugly feelings about those ugly tresses.
“The wig, it was a very important co-star. Right now I’m not missing much,” Lautner told MTV of his wig. “There was hatred between both of us. It did not like me, I did not like it. Not fond memories.”
Nicolas Cage, Con Air
Nicolas Cage's hair is often a cause for conversation and things seemed especially off *up there* when he played Cameron Poe in the 1997 movie Con Air.
Cage told Empire magazine in 2012 that the look he was going for in the movie was "a little bit country, more of a Southern look from the '70s." He also announced to the mag that he would put any future experiments with his hair on hold for the foreseeable future.
Anne Hathaway, Brokeback Mountain
Why someone would put beautiful, timeless Anne Hathaway in a hairpiece as bad as this remains unknown. But you have to admit, whoever the wig plug for Brokeback Mountain was has an excellent sense of humor—as does Hathaway for agreeing to wear it.
Bruce Willis, Surrogates
Bruce Willis' hair in Surrogates was bizarre and off-putting. Gizmodo actually wrote that Willis looked "like sh-t" in the movie, which means the hair and makeup artists did their job—it's a sci-fi thriller, after all.
Halle Berry, X-Men: The Last Stand
The name alone of Halle Berry's X-Men character Storm suggests a hairstyle that's bold and intimidating. Unfortunately, Berry was left with the above disappointing wig, but we all know she's capable of serving pixie cut fierceness in real life.
Emma Stone, The Help
Emma Stone is known to switch up her look and rock the hell out of it, but the wig she was tasked with wearing in the 2011 film The Help totally cramped her edgy style. Stone's 'do needed all of the *help* it could get.
Colin Farrell, Alexander
Colin Farrell's flow runneth over in 2004's Alexander—and not in a good way. The movie itself was a flop, as was Farrell's wig, which he later joked about on The Graham Norton Show. "That was my Doris Day look," Farrell said. "He [Alexander the Great] was famously blonde, but he shouldn’t have been. He should have been brunette for sure."
Ginnifer Goodwin, Once Upon a Time
Ginnifer Goodwin, goddess of short hair styles, had one of the most unforgivable wigs in Once Upon a Time. Fun fact: Goodwin now has "wig clauses" written into her contracts, which essentially allows her to do whatever the hell she wants with her real hair. Nothing can stop her, including a bad wig.
Tina Turner, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
Tina Turner's wig in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome was definitely one for the books. To be fair, everyone's hairdos in the movie were bizarre (Mel Gibson's mullet, anyone?), but it was Turner's platinum blonde hairpiece that caught the most attention.
