Dear Taylor Swift and Kanye West, We're Over Your "Beef" Already

Taylor Swift threw Kanye West a sub last night while accepting her Grammy award for Album of the Year. After alerting us all to the fact that she is the first woman to have won this particular award twice (she clearly didn't prep her speech, y'all), Swift not-so-subtly addressed Kanye, who recently tried to take credit for the country starlet-turned-pop empress' fame in his song, "Famous."

"There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame," Swift said. "But if you just focus on the work and you don't let those people sidetrack you, someday, when you get where you are going, you will look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there." Kanye's response? Nothing, yet, although he did hop on Twitter last night to rationalize his $53 million debt and petition for a "Lebron style" deal with Adidas.

This Kanye vs. Swift "beef" should be flaming out already, but unfortunately, it seems to be far from over. Kanye will undoubtedly address Swift's speech at some point—be it today, next week or next year—and Swift will forever remain the victim because Kanye really did start it all. The thing about this celebrity feud in particular is that it's not really about anything other than hurt feelings and egos that crossed paths on one unforgettable night in 2009. But both stars would like for us to believe that it's more than that.

As we pointed out last week, Kanye's "Famous" verse is nothing new coming from Yeezus or rap in general. Kanye is and has always been about the shock value, but it's really his nerve—and over the top Twitter rants—that make it hard for people to side with him this time around. But Swift doesn't make it any easier, either.

Swift attempted to metaphorically take one for the team that is women in music last night, but it didn't work out as seamlessly as she might have hoped. She tried to take a feminist approach to her speech, but it came off as unrefined and oblivious. She's rich, white, thin and beautiful. No one should be surprised at her winning Album of the Year twice, but perhaps we should question the authenticity of her feminism, considering her work squad consists mainly of men.

Perhaps if Kanye or Swift were at odds over something they took a stand for, it would be easier to side with one of them. But as of right now, Kanye's just talking smack and Swift's responding to it. Neither is for or against anything worthy of your support—although as Danielle C. Belton points out in The Root, Kanye does seem to be crying for help. That's more worthy of our time than Swift's faux feminist nonsense, isn't it?

Much like the 2016 presidential hopefuls, it sounds pretty great to be on Team No One when it comes to Kanye and Swift. Guess we'll just have to wait for a "Bad Blood 2.0" from Swift or another Twitter tirade from Kanye to see how things progress. When that moment arrives we truly have to consider walking away from this bratty back and forth. Where's the entertainment in this roller coaster ride anymore?
