Rachel McAdams Is About to Have Her Best Damn Year Since 2005
We're going to take you back to the age-old days of 2005. Remember those? A fresh-as-a-daisy actress named Rachel McAdams was coming off the success of two epic movies (Mean Girls and The Notebook) and headed for perhaps the most successful year of her career (Red Eye, Wedding Crashers, and The Family Stone all premiered in 2005). Until now. It took McAdams exactly a decade, and a few missteps (The Time Traveler's Wife, anyone?), but she's back and better than ever.
With five movies set for this year, McAdams will be quite the busy mean girl. And we're all for it! McAdams is one of the most underrated actresses around, so we're thrilled to see a lot of her in 2015. Let's break down the reasons why 2015 will be the year of Rachel.
She will star in the second season of True Detective.
McAdams will play Sheriff Ani Bezzerides in the eagerly anticipated second season of HBO's drama series, alongside Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, and Taylor Kitsch. According to a press release via Rolling Stone, McAdams' character is a "Venture County Sheriff's detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with the system she serves" with drinking and gambling issues. We can't wait to see her tackle this meaty, totally un-Notebook role.
She is doing a movie with James Franco.
The film is called Every Thing Will Be Fine, and we're pretty jazzed about it. Franco plays Tomas, a writer who accidentally kills a child in a car accident. McAdams is Franco's girlfriend, who helps him cope with his extreme guilt. So many feels. If we know one thing for sure, McAdams is good at making us cry (cue the audition tape).
She is helping bring The Little Prince to life.
The beloved French novel is getting the big screen treatment, and the cast is out of this world. McAdams stars alongside Marion Cotillard, Franco, and Jeff Bridges in the stop-motion animation flick about a child prodigy, which is set for an October release in France.
Cameron Crowe snagged her for his latest untitled project, also starring Emma Stone and Bradley Cooper.
McAdams, Stone, Cooper, Alec Baldwin, Bill Murray, John Krasinski, and Jay Baruchel star in this Hawaiian romantic comedy that was original titled Deep Tiki (thank God it's not anymore). It's slated for a May 29 release.
She will revive those pesky Jake Gyllenhaal dating rumors with their film Southpaw.
Remember when everyone thought McAdams and Gyllenhaal were an item? Well, it's because they got buddy-buddy while on the set of their film Southpaw, a sports drama flick that also stars Forest Whitaker, Tyrese Gibson, and 50 Cent. Check it out July 31.
She stars alongside Mark Ruffalo in the upcoming drama Spotlight.
You're going to want to mark your calendars for this. McAdams plays Sacha Pfeiffer, a reporter for the Boston Globe's "Spotlight" team, who was intricate in the coverage of the 2002 sex abuse scandal in the Catholic archdiocese of Boston. Ruffalo plays fellow journalist Michael Rezendes. The film doesn't have an exact release date at this time.
